Understanding Limestone County Releases
A Limestone County release closes one agency's custody segment. It does not always mean the person returned to the community. The Limestone County Jail may record a bond, personal bond, time served, a court order, sentence completion, or a handoff to another authority. A transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues custody under a new custodian.
Three records answer three separate questions. A booking entry shows when the jail accepted the person. An affirmative release or transfer entry shows when that jail ended custody and may identify a reason or destination. A signed court order explains legal authority, yet its time may differ from the moment the jail door opened. Reliable confirmation pairs those records when the exact event matters.
Limestone County Release Paths
The destination controls the next lookup. Community release can follow bond, time served, dismissal, acquittal, sentence completion, or another court order. Parole and mandatory supervision apply to eligible state prisoners. Probation, called community supervision in Texas law, is ordered by a court and need not follow a prison term. Escape and death also end a displayed custody episode but are not community releases.

Limestone County Release Record Fields

A record marked “disposed” in court is not a jail departure time. Likewise, a bond release does not close the case. Ask for Limestone County’s actual field labels and definitions if a code is unclear. Online display life and lawful government retention are also different. No verified Limestone County source states how long a release stays visible online.
Request Limestone County Release Records
Send a focused written request to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office under the Texas Public Information Act. The reviewed official pages do not list a special release-record form or fixed special fee. Confirm the current delivery method through the Sheriff before sending sensitive identifiers.

Texas law does not require special phrases, but a precise request makes the record easier to locate. An office may redact confidential juvenile, victim, medical, protected-identifier, sealed, expunged, security, or active-investigation material. It need not answer legal questions or create a new report. Ask for existing entries and segregable public portions.

Limestone Release Orders by Court
Limestone County divides durable criminal-case access by case level. The County Clerk describes online misdemeanor case access from 1985 to the present. Felony district-court records belong with the District Clerk. Search by name, then narrow by cause number, charge, and filing date. Read entries in time order and obtain the signed bond, dismissal, acquittal, judgment, commitment, or release order when exact proof is needed.

That court source can prove the legal action, but it should not replace the Sheriff’s release or transfer entry.
Expunction Notice After Limestone Release
Texas gives the release point a distinct record-clearing role. Code of Criminal Procedure article 55A.451 directs the person responsible for release or discharge after arrest to provide a written explanation of expunction rights and a copy of Chapter 55A. That handoff does not mean the person qualifies for expunction. Eligibility still turns on the statute, case history, and disposition.
A final expunction order restricts the handling of covered records as Chapter 55A provides. Nondisclosure under Government Code Chapter 411 is different. It limits ordinary public disclosure of covered criminal-history information but does not destroy the record, and authorized entities retain access. Neither relief should be inferred merely because a Limestone County released inmate no longer appears in a live search.

Find Limestone County Released Inmates
Start with identity, then trace custody. Record at least two matching details, such as full name, approximate birth date, booking date, charge, case number, jail ID, SID, TDCJ number, federal register number, or A-number. Similar names and alternate spellings cause false matches. The correct path depends on whether the person was held locally, transferred to state prison, detained federally, or released under supervision.
- Call the Limestone County Jail at 254-729-3278 about the specific booking. Ask whether it ended, when it ended, and whether the entry says community release or transfer.
- If historic detail is unavailable by phone, request the written booking and release entry from the Sheriff.
- Check the County Clerk for a misdemeanor or the District Clerk for a felony, then obtain the signed controlling order.
- If the record shows transfer to TDCJ, use state custody, IVSS, parole, and TDCJ records channels.
- If federal custody appears, use the federal docket, BOP, ICE, or the responsible agency rather than a county roster.
The official Limestone Sheriff guidance says to contact the agency before traveling because custody can change. That warning supports direct verification. It does not state why a person left. A fixed-time release log can be requested because the county publishes no verified feed.
TDCJ Search After Limestone Release
The TDCJ Inmate Search contains only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. It is not a historic list of discharged Limestone County inmates. A person transferred from the county jail may appear after TDCJ intake, which proves continued state custody. A fully discharged person may return no result.

TDCJ says the search data is updated on working days and is at least 24 hours old. Its email channel at pia@tdcj.texas.gov can supply listed state record facts, including the TDCJ number, location, conviction offense, incarceration history, and projected release date. Include the full name and TDCJ number, or exact date of birth when the number is unknown. TDCJ says this ordinary email service has no charge and does not provide photographs.
Limestone Release Alerts and Supervision
Texas replaced county VINE with IVSS-Counties on September 1, 2025. Search by full or partial name, DOC ID, SID, jail ID, or permanent booking number. Participation is not universal, so verify that Limestone is available in the live portal. Its warning matters: people no longer in custody may disappear, and portal information is not an official record. A notice should lead to confirmation with the jail or court.
State-prison notifications use separate TDCJ IVSS. Parole means discretionary release from prison to serve the rest of a sentence under supervision. Mandatory supervision is another statutory state release mechanism. Probation is imposed by a court and run by a Community Supervision and Corrections Department. It may involve no TDCJ prison term at all. Each status requires its own official verification path.

The portal can report a custody change, but the Sheriff’s record remains the durable local source for release time and disposition.
Two Limestone Detention Operations
Two facilities on North Tyus Street create a local identity trap. The Sheriff-operated Limestone County Jail is at 912 North Tyus Street. The separate Limestone County Detention Center is next door at 910 North Tyus Street and is a privately operated contract facility identified with federal detention use. Always attach the operator and controlling custodian to the person before interpreting the word “released.”
A county jail transfer to TDCJ, ICE, or USMS does not prove a return to the community. At the contract facility, a federal court, USMS, ICE, or BOP may control the durable decision and record. The operator may confirm physical custody when permitted, yet disappearance from a county query says little about the federal custody chain.

Federal Limestone Release Checks
Use the BOP Inmate Locator for federal Bureau of Prisons custody. Search by a federal identifier or by name. BOP explains that “RELEASED” means no longer in BOP custody, while “IN TRANSIT” is not a release and “UNKNOWN” means the term is undetermined. A past release date does not rule out supervision or custody under another jurisdiction.
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator System accepts a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact name and country of birth. ICE says it covers current detainees and people released from ICE custody during the preceding 60 days. That is a short window. No result after it cannot prove an older release. USMS has no comparable public historic release locator, so federal pretrial cases often require the court docket and an agency record.

Those terms apply only to BOP custody. They do not resolve a Limestone County jail booking or an ICE handoff.
Locate Limestone County Release Proof
Choose the source that owns the custody segment. A live roster or current-inmate locator is built to show present custody, while a release record documents an ended segment. Court records may last longer, but they answer the legal question rather than the exact physical departure time.

The Texas DPS Sex Offender Registry may show a registrant after release. It is not a general Limestone County release list and does not establish the date or reason the jail ended custody. The TDCJ sex-offender absconder search is even narrower and should not be treated as a list of all released people.
Limestone County Release Facilities
Limestone County has two verified facility pages, each with a different custody model. The Sheriff jail is the main local booking point for charges, warrants, pretrial detention, short county sentences, and some temporary holds. Its release evidence comes from the Sheriff record and local court. The adjacent contract center can hold adults under federal arrangements, making the federal docket and responsible agency central to verification.

Municipal departments in Mexia, Groesbeck, Tehuacana, and elsewhere may hold someone briefly before county booking. No separate long-term municipal jail was verified. If a person never entered the county jail, ask the arresting department when and where custody ended or moved.
A facility name alone is not enough. Match its street address, operator, booking identifier, and controlling agency before treating any Limestone County release notation as final proof.
